DOI Aims To Better Protect Streams From Coal Mining

Law360, New York (November 19, 2009) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior has put out advance notice of a proposed rule designed to safeguard streams from pollution stemming from surface coal mining, announcing efforts to increase oversight of permitting for those operations.

Meant to revise current regulations set under the Bush administration in 2008, the proposal seeks public comment on several alternatives for the environmental protections, the department said Wednesday....
